Here’s something pretty interesting. A company named Light has announced a revolutionary new point-and-shoot camera simply called the L16. Sized much like a phablet, the L16 is a 16MP camera which uses 16 separate cameras that simultaneously take a photo at different focal lengths, before digitally stitching them into a 52MP image.

Light claims that the L16 produces “DSLR-quality” images and is “smaller, lighter, less expensive, and provides better image quality than any camera in its price class.” Similar to the Lytro light field camera, the L16 lets you shoot first, and then adjust your depth of field later.

The 16 cameras within the L16 also gives it a 35-150mm zoom range, without the bulk of a “real” optical zoom lens. It also features a 5-inch touch screen.

The L16 will be available at US$1,699 in late summer 2016.
