It doesn’t seem that long ago that Sony released the second incarnation of the popular Cyber-shot RX100. Today, Sony officially announced the launch of their RX100 III. While the second generation RX100 II adds a hotshoe, the latest model eschews it in favour of a very innovative pop-up EVF (much like a pop-up flash) with a resolution of 1.44 million dots.

The RX100 III also features a faster f/1.8-2.8 zoom lens covering a 35mm equivalent range of 24-70mm. While the telephoto end is now shorter than the previous versions’ 100mm, you now have a wider angle lens useful for landscapes and shooting in crowded places.

In line with the selfie trend, the RX100 III now sports a 3″,  LCD which can be flipped upwards by 180º and downwards by 45º. Like the previous models, the RX100 III has a 20 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and WiFi/NFC support.

The RX100 III will be available from June 2014 at US$800.

YS: Hmm. It does have a lot of nice features. 24mm check. Zoom lens that doesn’t become silly at telephot end check. EVF check. That price is something though. Will I finally break my Sony boycott? We shall see!
